Pyruvate is the end-product of the glycolysis pathway, by which glucose is converted to pyruvate with energetic production of ATP.
Sodium pyruvate 100mM (11g/L) is commonly added to cell culture media as an additional source of energy besides glucose. It promotes cell proliferation.
