Sodium bicarbonate is used in cell culture applications where pH maintenance is critical. Cells can vary in their sensitivity to pH, resulting in cytotoxicity from the medium. The addition of sodium bicarbonate allows for more effective buffering of the culture medium.
We recommend testing different buffer concentrations to determine the most effective supplement for a particular cell type and for individual culture conditions.
